I wanted to let you all know that the black google bar, normally seen in any google app is no longer there. Here is a really short video to help you out with this:)
Evernote is an awesome tool for keeping thoughts and ideas organized. Its like my brain and filing cabinet online. I can access it from any device (it syncs in the cloud) so I can keep notebooks about topics like grocery lists, travel, meetings, finances, anything. Check it out or let me show you how I use evernote to simplify my life! Another awesome addition to evernote, is the evernote web clipper extension found in the Chrome WebStore. This allows you to clip any webpage or article on the internet to your evernote. For example, if you find something you could use for a lesson you are teaching just clip it and label it and when the time comes it is available in your evernote. Check out this little video. http://evernote.com/webclipper/guide/
I found an awesome resource that I want to share with each of you. I have heard about www.newsela.com in the past but never took the time to truly check it out until today. What is newsela.com? All articles are available in five different lexile levels (3rd grade and up) to allow all of your students the opportunity to read the same content regardless of their reading ability. Most articles are also accompanied with a quiz to test the reader's understanding of the content. When you register with this site you can create classes so that you can "push" content to your students. If you don't want to (or don't have the means) to use this resource digitally you can also print the articles for your students. This is an awesome resource to develop critical thinking skills as well as ...
So today is the magical day that I have chosen to begin this blog journey. I spent the day getting google-y at TCEA in Austin, in the first of a three day "Becoming a Google Apps For Education Certified Trainer." It was an information filled day, but lots of fun learning new google tips and tricks. I am very excited to begin this journey as an Instructional Technologist. I feel like today is my first official step in that direction. I have to say, it was a little weird to introduce myself as Courtney Stevens, District Instructional Technologist, not Courtney Stevens, Principal. But I know good things are ahead and I am super excited.
